P. Licht-Bergweiler Erben Winery, Brauneberg, Germany
In the Mosel River Valley, in southwestern Germany, is the little town of Brauneberg. After a long career in the US Air Force, a friend and her husband have settled there and become “farmers.” Not just any farmers mind you, but purveyors of a very fine white Reisling wine. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit last fall…and it was lovely! The house was built in the 1860’s and looks out directly onto one of their vineyards, beyond which is the Mosel River. The above image is the view from their back porch. Of the 1200 residents in the town, there are 60 vintners! No surprise, as the region has been famous for wine production for 2000 years, dating back to the times of the Romans who grew grapes here.
